Last September, at the start of the 2021-2022 season, we were delighted to be able to enter an U14 team into the South West Regional league for the first time in the history of the club.
The team’s first match took place at our home, St Mary’s Sports Club Calne. Although the girls lost out against Jersey Jets, this didn’t deter them for their next match the following weekend.
Having travelled to Exeter, the team pulled out an impressive 69 - 30 win against ENC Pink Zodiac. The pressure was kept on throughout all four quarters. With some brilliant movement and interceptions the score line reflected a win that the girls deserved. POM went to Captain, Lauren Adams, for getting in a fantastic number of goals in her position as GA.
In their final match before Christmas, the girls had everyone on the edge of their seats. Dart Strike pulled away at the start of the game, but no-one gave up and before we knew it the game ended in a goal for goal contest, with the final score a 38 - 38 draw.
Unfortunately at the start of 2022 the girls had a series of tough matches losing out to Titan Stars 46 - 32 and the undefeated Cowick Puma’s 56 - 36. POM Amelia Lynch put out a strong performance against Titan Stars in defence, enabling the team to keep the score line as close as possible.
For their final match the girls travelled to Truro to play Aggie Giants. With six games under their belt, the girls found their rhythm quickly and finished the season with a 45 - 27 win. POM went to Sophie Vaughan in C for her feeds through into the shooters and always being available to work the ball down the court.
Over the season, Lauren Adams bagged an impressive 3 POM’s, closely followed by Amelia Lynch with 2 and both Lauren Pearce and Sophie Vaughan with 1.
As a club we are all so proud of the girls dedication to netball over the years to get them playing at this level. The team eventually finished 5th in the league. A big well done, and congratulations, to all the girls and also for the support from their families to enable them to have this opportunity.
